Electronic design

Ventis PCB designWe specialise in the design of embedded microcontroller-based products and systems. Working with our partners, we can also provide advanced analogue and RF based designs. We know that even the greatest product can never be successful unless it meets its target cost. Technologies and products are changing fast – we are not tied to any particular technology or processor type, instead we always try to find the best solution at the given moment in terms of cost and performance.Since we are responsible for the production of most of the products we develop, we well understand that proper design is fundamental to the quality and reliability of a product, which must be manufactured efficiently. At every stage of product design we keep production processes in mind and review the design accordingly.

At Ventis, the creation of a “compliant product” starts at the concept stage and then continues through the whole design process. In order to meet high demands for productivity and quality, we use leading-edge EDA software ? Mentor Graphics PADS.

We have particular experience in the following areas: communication, process control, motor control, AV control, LCD displays, LED divers, LANC, USB, IEEE 1394 (Firewire). Microcontrollers that we have worked with include popular 8-bit PIC, AVR architectures up to 32-bit ARM7 microprocessors.

Firmware design

Ventis firmware coding in C - thumbnailThe quality of an electric product is not limited to electronic design itself: as more tasks depend upon the microcontroller, firmware quality plays an increasingly important role in overall system performance. At Ventis we are also well aware that product design rarely stops when the initial design is complete, as users require new features, and bugs needs to be fixed. This requires well documented and maintainable code. At Ventis we implement MISRA-C standard (automotive standard) rules where possible; we maintain an internal firmware development standard; our code is managed by a version control system and unit tests are made to test each piece of software we design. Code is well-documented and reference documentation is generated automatically. With our years of experience we know how to develop code that is at the same time maintainable, easy to understand and efficient. We mostly use ANSI C compilers, but if efficiency is a prime factor, we can also use low-level assembly code.We have particular experience in the following software fields: protocol stack design (e.g. Firewire AV/C protocol stack), RTOS (eCos, FreeRTOS), graphical user interfaces.

Mechanical design

We employ leading edge solid modelling software from UGS – Solid Edge – and can generate 3D models directly from electronic design files. With these 3D electronic assembly models, we can virtually fit electronic components into 3D housing models and check if everything fits, or rectify are any collisions before tooling and manufacturing begin. We are also able to import your designs or export the assembly model to almost any standard solid model file format. We an also take care of simple electronic housing design ourselves – whether in plastic or in sheet metal. We do not claim to be masters of industrial design, but if you just need a simple housing, you may find our services fit the bill.

Documentation

At Ventis we can provide you with full documentation for all regulatory, manufacturing or maintenance needs. We can also prepare users’ or service engineers’ manuals.

Production

Most of our customers do not know much about electronics manufacture, nor they even want to know much about it. They just want to have the finished product ready to be shipped to their customers. We will prepare and manage production documentation. We will source electronic and mechanical components and manage stock. Electronic assembly will be carried out by one of our proven subcontractors. We will take care of final assembly, testing and packaging. We will supply you 100% finished, tested products, packaged and ready to ship to your customers. Each product can even be serialized, if necessary. For production we maintain an ERP/MRP system and we can make batches ranging from tens to hundreds of units.

Support

In almost all cases, marketing, installation and service staff need to have clear understanding of all the technical aspects of the product well before it gets to market. Then during the product’s life firmware may change, bugs might need to be fixed, and new features may be added. We can provide product training, product support and firmware maintenance services.
